Nua Healthcare Services Joins the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan
Nua Healthcare Services has officially signed up as a Business Supporter of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan (AIPP), marking another positive step in our ongoing commitment to biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
Led by the National Biodiversity Data Centre, the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan is an evidence-based framework that brings together businesses, local authorities, schools, communities and other organisations with a shared goal: creating an Ireland where pollinating insects can survive and thrive.
Pollinators play an essential role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and supporting biodiversity. Through participation in the AIPP, organisations are encouraged to take practical, evidence-based actions to protect existing habitats, provide food and shelter for pollinators and manage outdoor spaces in more biodiversity-friendly ways.
Taking Practical Action Across Nua
Nua’s involvement in the initiative is being led by Karl Dignam, Nua's Head of Landscape & Horticulture, with the first pilot project planned in New Ross.
The pilot will provide an opportunity to explore practical measures that can enhance biodiversity and support pollinators within a Nua service environment. Following its implementation, the project will be reviewed with a view to identifying opportunities to introduce similar measures across other suitable Nua locations.
Our participation in the AIPP will also complement and highlight biodiversity initiatives already taking place across our services, including the established orchard at our Gormanston service, alongside other planting and habitat projects.
Supporting Our Wider Environmental Commitments
Becoming an AIPP Business Supporter forms part of Nua Healthcare Services’ wider environmental and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments.
Importantly, the initiative provides an opportunity to translate these commitments into practical actions at service level, helping to protect pollinators, enhance habitats and encourage greater awareness of biodiversity across our organisation.
We look forward to seeing the New Ross pilot develop and exploring how the learning from the project can support further biodiversity initiatives across Nua in the future.
