During the Halloween mid-term break, Nua Healthcare Services proudly hosted a Children’s Learning Camp at Dublin Zoo, offering a fun, inclusive, and educational experience for children with additional needs.

The event was part of Nua’s ongoing commitment to promoting accessible learning opportunities through our CLaD Hubs. This special camp combined education with exploration, helping children to develop new skills, build confidence, and enjoy hands-on learning in one of Ireland’s most beloved attractions.

The Mobile CLaD Hub and Mobile Sensory Units were on-site throughout the week, transforming the zoo grounds into an interactive and supportive learning environment. The Mobile CLaD Hub provided a fully equipped classroom space for children to engage in creative and educational activities, while the Mobile Sensory Units offered calming, sensory-rich experiences tailored to individual needs. Together, these mobile services created an inclusive atmosphere where every child could participate and thrive.

Organised by Care Manager Ciara O’Connor and CLaD Facilitators Adam Dempsey and Suzanne McCabe, the programme featured a range of fun and educational sessions that encouraged curiosity, teamwork, and sensory exploration. Children learned about wildlife and conservation, took part in arts and crafts, and enjoyed the magic of Halloween through themed activities.

This initiative was delivered in collaboration with Dublin Zoo and funded by the HSE, under the guidance of Disability Manager Susan Hickey. The partnership highlighted the shared commitment to supporting children with additional needs and providing enriching, inclusive experiences for families.

Speaking about the event, Care Manager Ciara O’Connor said:

“The Children’s Learning Camp at Dublin Zoo was a fantastic opportunity to combine education, fun, and inclusion. Seeing the children engage, learn, and laugh together was incredibly rewarding, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.”

The success of this year’s camp reflects Nua Healthcare’s dedication to empowering children with additional needs through meaningful learning and community participation. By continuing to bring education to life through innovative and inclusive programmes, Nua aims to ensure that every child has the chance to learn, grow, and create lasting memories.
