SERVICE ACHIEVEMENTS: 4 million steps forward for Nua Team!

4 million steps forward for Nua Team!

Our residential centre in Co. Westmeath took up their own internal steps challenge for the full month of March, encouraging all staff to participate with all exercise undertaken within their 5km radius, as per Government guidelines at the time.

They decided to make it more exciting by setting up a competition in house with weekly winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and overall monthly winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

Each of the weekly and monthly winners were awarded prizes for achieving the highest number of steps. It provided a great platform for friendly competition and for staff to exercise for their mind and body as well as encouraging great team spirit in testing times.

We spoke to Team Leader David Slevin about the challenge.

We decided to organise a Steps Challenge for the month of March to fundraise for Turn2Me, a community of fully qualified and accredited mental health professionals working online to provide a high quality, safe, anonymous and confidential space for people to gain support.

Staff from Tour residential centre got involved in a huge way and many of the residents also took part. It was a brilliant way to get fit and to take care of our wellbeing.

We set a goal initially of 1,500,000 steps collectively for the month of March. However, after such a huge response to the fundraiser and a high staff involvement, we eclipsed the 1.5 million steps within just 10 days! We then set a new target of 3 million steps thereafter and eventually we had to increase it to 4 million steps!! We were blown away by the effort of all staff members and residents!

In the end we smashed our goal and managed to hit a total step count of 4,213,565 for the month of March whilst fundraising a total of €2035!! We couldn’t be more delighted with our efforts and Nua Healthcare kindly donated to the fundraiser as well. We are delighted to raise funds for such a worthy cause.
